AVID 7/8 worked hard to raise some funds for this awesome field trip to Bend to take their first visit to some college campuses. They started off at COCC and the kids loved how homey it felt. They enjoyed seeing the demo dorm and learning about the different programs. Next tour was at OSU-Cascades, a more compact campus with some newer facilities. They enjoyed seeing the different buildings and classes available. They ended the day at The Pavilion ice rink, and they had a blast! AVID's mission is to close the opportunity gap by preparing all students for college and career readiness and success in a global society. Trips such as this one broaden the horizons for students who may not have an opportunity to do so on their own. Thank you Rachael Mooney, Dani Thames, and Ashleigh Sacht for helping to coordinate the fundraising for this trip and chaperoning!

Advanced horticulture has been busy practicing some new propagation methods including grafting and tissue culture. In addition to preparing plants for our plant sale, we try to learn and apply lots of skills and knowledge related to the horticulture industry.

Union Elementary spent the morning learning about nutrition from Mr. Farron. They learned about the different food groups and how to properly get all the nutrients you need for your body. After the presentation, the students got to put their learning to the test and make their own deli sandwich for lunch that must include a protein, dairy, and vegetables!

Last night, we had the privilege of hearing speeches from some very talented 7th graders from around Lake County. They discussed the many aspects of how wildfires impact agriculture. This speech contest was in partnership with the Lakeview Soil and Water Conservation District. The winners of the contest were first place: Claira Vanbelle from Paisley, second place: Quinlyn Muller from Lakeview and third place: Addalee Tague from Lakeview. We are very proud of all the students that participated in the contest and want to congratulate all of them on their hard work.
