Owens Breaks 19-Year School Record in Triple Jump Saturday KLAMATH FALLS – Lakeview sophomore Paige Owens broke a 19-year old school record in the triple jump with a leap of 35-feet and one-half inch Saturday, winning the event at the Coldwell Bank Invitational, hosted by Mazama High School. Owens broke the previous record of 34-feet, 6-inches, set by Megan Masterson in 2005. Entering Saturday, Owens’ previous personal best in the triple was 32-feet, 6 inches, set earlier this year at the Medford Rotary Relays on April 6. She eclipsed her personal best with a jump of 34-feet, one-inch on her first attempt of the preliminary round. Owens then broke the school record on her third and final attempt of the preliminaries. Her mark was good enough to hold off Mazama junior Mada Lee, who recorded a mark of 35-feet in the final round. Owens also finished second in the high jump Saturday with a personal best of five-feet. Entering the week, Owens currently ranks third in the state, at the 3A level, in the triple jump and is tied for fourth in the high jump. The Honkers turned in several other notable individual performances Saturday, including junior Johanna Heil winning the girls’ javelin with a personal-best 119-feet 8 inches. She is currently ranked second in the state at the 3A level. Lakeview will return to action Friday at the Outback Invitational, hosted by North Lake High School. This will be the second-to-last meet before the Honkers compete at the District 5 Championships, Friday and Saturday, May 10-11, at Sutherlin High School.

On April 19th, Ben Whitman worked with a group of 6th grade students to learn 3-D modeling. The students were able to combine basic shapes to build self designed keychains. The designs were printed and in the students’ hands by the end of the day.

The LHD Rehab Department and LHS Athletic Department have begun discussions on how we can partner to mitigate injuries for our athletes.
As parents the research has shown there are a lot of steps you can take at home. Please see the flyer below.
Youth coaches, keep an eye out we will be having a clinic coming up late spring or early summer for more in depth practices coaches can adopt to help athletes stay healthy at all ages.
