DMS Winter Formal information below!

Dear Lakeview High School and Daly Middle School Parents:
There is currently a nationwide shortage of healthcare professionals and this shortage is striking here locally especially hard. In response to national and local needs the Health Science Program at the High School is evolving to adapt to the needs of the students, as well as those of the community. The program is open to students currently in grades 8-12.
As part of that evolution, we have proposed and received School Board approval to join the international organization, Health Occupations Students of America or (HOSA). HOSA is a global student led national organization providing unique classroom experiences and opportunities in the health professions with enhanced leadership development and recognition opportunities. HOSA's core values are Learn, Lead, Serve, and Innovate.
An exciting organization like HOSA will encourage students to examine a career path in one of many healthcare fields. During their time in HOSA the students will explore careers in healthcare such as: diagnostic services, emergency medical services, mental health services, nursing, nutrition, therapeutic services, information technology, medical insurance, veterinary services, and vision services just to name a few.
In addition to exploring the healthcare industry, students will also develop leadership, public speaking, and interviewing skills. They will form competition teams and compete at state, local, and international HOSA sponsored events. Some of the competitive events include: creative problem solving, forensic science, health career displays, mental health promotion, parliamentary procedure, health career photography, CPR, first-aid, biomedical debate, medical spelling, interview skills, personal care speaking, behavioral health, researched writing, and extemporaneous writing and/or speaking. As you can see, there is something for everyone.
Future program plans include the possibility of providing graduating Seniors with training and certification in the following areas of healthcare, many come with accompanying college credit:
Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
Emergency Medical Responder (EMR)
CPR
Advanced First Aid Anatomy and Physiology Medical Terminology
Would you please take some time and discuss this unique opportunity with your student(s). If they are interested or would like additional information, please have them attend our next HOSA meeting in room 436 at the high school during lunch Wednesday January 17th.
There will be daily reminders on the morning announcements and a reminder email to parents who reply to this offer via email.
Interested parents please email me at cappe.jeff@lakeview.k12.or.us and I will keep you informed of HOSA progress.
With warmest regards;
Jeff Cappe, LHS - Health Science Teacher

EBL is in need of two additional coaches. If you have a student who is playing and would be interested in coaching please let me know. We need coaches ASAP so we can set teams and get the season started. We had 70 kids sign up this year and it’d be a shame to have to cancel the season due to not enough coaches.
Please contact Candace Johnson for more information.
